  • Where are you at risk? How to select the most appropriate rider safety equipment
    Ride Forever (NZ) presents a great series of information on how to choose the correct gear for safe riding, including jackets, helmets, boots, gloves and more. Rideforever is owned by the NZ Accident Compensation Commission - a government body that covers medical costs and compensation for victims of accidents including road accidents in NZ.

  • The fine art of roadcraft
    Ride Forever (NZ) presents an excellent series on the skills required to enjoy riding and stay safe on the road. Includes defensive riding, handling difficult terrain and weather conditions, road positioning, overtaking, managing problems and group riding.

  • UK Government Motorcycling Strategy
    The UK government has finally issued their motorcycling strategy (February 2005). This is a quite broadly based transport strategy which covers environmental, infrastructure and traffic management, motorcycle and rider equipment and behavioural factors. The strategy, by the Department for Transport, includes a foreword from the Minister which states that mainstreaming motorcycling as a form of transport is now government policy. This is quite a different approach to most Australian governments, and many others around the world, who consider motorcycle too dangerous to be encouraged and focus policy on harm minimisation and control.

    Do you really understand the road rules? How long since you got your motorcycle licence? How much has changed since then, especially with the new national uniform road rules starting to take effect in all States. It's up to each of us to know the rules of the road. This site can help.

    OK, we've all heard of it and we all seem to have an opinion about it one way or the other, but how much do you really know about Q-Ride? This information from Queensland Transport shows what the Government had in mind when it created Q-Ride motorcycle licensing and how it is supposed to work.

  • Latest ATSB road fatality statistics
    Enough said. The Australian Transport Safety Board maintains regular statistics on road fatalities throughout Australia, including a fatal road crash database.

  • Choosing jackets and pants
    You need different levels of protection for different parts of your body according to the level of risk. The Motorcycle Council of NSW has useful information on how to choose the best gear for your riding style. Also how to choose the right helmet, gloves and boots.

  • "You and Your Motorcycle: Riding Tips" booklet
    Comprehensive booklet (PDF file) published by the Motorcycle Foundation of the USA for new riders. American, and therefore wrong side of the road and some rules are different, but useful nevertheless.

  • NSW RTA Motorcycle Riders' Handbook
    This handbook (PDF file) contains important information about riding techniques, how to cope with hazards and selecting and maintaining your motorcycle.

  • Advanced Motorcycle Riding Strategies
    From the Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Centre, USA, this website describes the mental and physical skills you need to develop to safely ride a motorbike, especially a high-powered sports bike.

  • Riding tips ... from other riders
    The Victorian TAC is maintaining a series of riding tips submitted by motorbike riders about all the common riding safety issues like debris on the roads, riding in heavy traffic, anticipating driver behaviours, riding in wet weather, etc.

    How to help an injured motorcyclist and how to help yourself after an accident. Prepared by the UK's largest motorcycle training group.
